Utah’s Senator-elect Mitt Romney is facing backlash from his own niece after he penned an op-ed criticizing Trump.
In the piece released by the Washington Post, Romney detailed many of his perceived shortcomings displayed by Trump.
“With the nation so divided, resentful and angry, presidential leadership in qualities of character is indispensable,” Romney noted. “And it is in this province where the incumbent’s shortfall has been most glaring.”
While there are many echoing Romney’s sentiment, the chair of the Republican National Committee, Ronna McDaniel does not.
This is particularly noteworthy as Romney is McDaniel’s uncle.
“POTUS is attacked and obstructed by the MSM media and Democrats 24/7,” McDaniel wrote on Twitter. “For an incoming Republican freshman senator to attack [Trump] as their first act feeds into what the Democrats and media want and is disappointing and unproductive.”
With an entire nation seemingly at odds, this division within Romney’s own family doesn’t bode well for the upcoming senator.
